There is an opening for a PhD position, beginning August 2021 or January 2022 in the Autonomous Intelligent Mechatronics research group at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. The research area is “Reliability and Resilience of Network Control Autonomous Systems” and the main focus is on the developing analytical and computational tools to identify and manage the complex faults and failures in structural and electromechanical critical sensor systems in autonomous vehicles. Ideal candidates should possess a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical or electrical engineering, preferably with background in control systems. Potential candidates should have strong knowledge of computer programming, and dynamic system modeling/control (with Matlab and Python), and preferably familiarity with data analytic, machine learning and Robot Operating System (ROS).
